DXHEAT ---> DXHeat by Tobias  Wellnitz,  DH1TW  (
www.dxheat.com)  is  a  new
real-time Web DX-Cluster that offers versatile filtering of incoming  spots,
a visual tool to check the current band activity into all  continents  at  a
glance, and integration  with  WebSDR.  Through  its  DX  Analytics,  DXHeat
provides meaningful statistics for amateur radio stations and their past  DX
activities.

FT5ZM ---> The FT5ZM Team reached  Amsterdam  Island  around  1  UTC  on  24
January. They were waiting offshore for the island general  to  come  aboard
and do an inspection at their 8 a.m. (3 UTC). Once this is  done,  they  can
begin to unload all the cargo onto the Zodiac and on  to  the  island.  When
the team is  ashore,  they  will  have  18  days  to  set  up,  conduct  the
DXpedition,  and  tear  down  for  departure.  See
www.amsterdamdx.org  for
updates and logsearch.

IOTA DINNER ---> The 19th Annual Islands On The Air (IOTA)  Dinner  will  be
held on Friday, 4 April  at  the  Visalia  Marriott  Convention  Center,  in

QSL VK0TH ---> Trevor, VK8TH  made  some  15,000  QSOs  while  stationed  on
Macquarie Island  between  late  September  2011  and  mid-April  2012.  "No
further QSL cards will be processed", he wrote on VK0TH's
qrz.com  page  on
15 January. "If you have sent a card before 01/01/2014 then  your  QSL  will
be processed however I have no  further  QSL  Cards  for  VK0TH  and  cannot
process the volume of QSL's still being received almost 2  years  after  the
expedition. My apologies and hope you understand. I am more than willing  to
process eQSL and will look at making the log available via other means".

TO7CC ---> The  website  for  the  Radio  Club  de  Provins'  6-16  February

  [28/01/2014] CE7/UA4WHX/A – Las Huichas Isl SA-064

Continuing his Chilean IOTA tour, Vlad UA4WHX is now QRV from Puerto Aguirre, Las Huichas Group SA-064 as CE7/UA4WHX/A.

Vlad updates readers with the following:

We are on SA-064, Puerto Aguirre. The area is well known for Extra Terrestrian encounters and stories. A lot of it appears to be true! Many come here looking for ETs as they are believed to be able to cure the incurable. Few succeed in locating them..

I  heard a story from a  doctor here who once had three strange men knocking  on his door early in the morning seeking medical assistance. They were tall, about 2 meters, blond and were untypically and unlocally polite. Once the medical problem was treated they left and said that they would see each other later.

The doctor knew all coastal guards on the island and contacted them immediately as soon as visitors left. No people of this type, no boat  at all was seen or reported this or previous day.

Locals are normally reluctant to share the stories of such encounters. Find out more on an internet search of Friendship Island.

  [28/01/20145H1Z – Tanzanian IOTA tour

REMINDER – Sam F6AML will be active as 5H1Z from the following Tanzanian islands between January 28 to February 18, 2014.

QRV 40 to 10 m, CW/ SSB.

QSL via F6AML.

  [28/01/2014FT5ZM – Amsterdam Island DXpedition

UPDATE:The FT5ZM team continues to remain focused on making as many contacts on as many bands as possible. Stations are on the air from both locations. Antenna erection at Mataf, the lower site is complete, but antenna work continues at Antonelli, the upper site. Erecting antennas at Antonelli is very difficult and taking much more time than anticipated due to the challenging terrain and high foliage. The hike from Mataf to Antonelli is an exhausting uphill climb, and takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. The team is tired and in good spirits!

To date there has been no internet connectivity. The primary focus of the entire team is on completing the antenna work and making as many contacts as possible. Logs will be uploaded to ClubLog as soon as possible. We will announce when the first upload to ClubLog is complete.

VK9MT: OPERATOR NEEDED ---> "To better distribute the workload and  keep  as
many stations on the air as possible, the Mellish Reef 2014 DXpedition  team
will add one additional operator to the team, bringing the total to 12.
We are seeking an experienced SSB and RTTY operator. The  pile-ups  will  be
energetic  and,  at  times,  challenging.    Candidates    must    have  the
'Determination - Time - Finances' to join this exciting DXpedition.
As with all projects of this type the team will share in the cost to  launch
the project. Each operator is putting up about 12,000 USD to pay  the  costs
associated with this  DXpedition.  Surplus  funds  will  be  evenly  divided
across the team after the books close. Each operator will pay their own  way
to and from Australia, as well as their living  expenses  before  and  after
the DXpedition.
Previous DXpedition experience is preferred but not required. We  welcome  a
seasoned DXer who is capable of  operating  over  an  11  day  period  on  a
rotating shift schedule. The team will sail to Mellish Reef on  a  25  meter
(crewed) passenger vessel with previous DXpedition experience.
You would need to be at Mackay, Australia no later than March 23,  2014  and
plan to leave Mackay on April 16, 2014.
If this opportunity interests you please send a short biography of your  ham
radio experience to info[@]

can commit to the project before January 15, 2014".

                       >>> FT5ZM, AMSTERDAM ISLAND <<<

This is the latest Press Release, sent on 3 January by K0IR & the  Amsterdam
Island DXpedition Team:

We are now 6 days from departure from the U.S.  The Braveheart  is  making
its way across the Great Australian  Bight  and  the  North  Corridor  Radio
Group of Western Australia  has  a  stockpile  of  supplies  queued  up  and
waiting for us.  Momentum has taken over now and there is no turning back.
Upon arrival in Fremantle, the Braveheart will re-provision and refuel  to
90,000 to 100,000 liters  of  fuel.    We  will  load  the  materials  we've
obtained from the NCRG, do a little shopping for personal supplies,  set  up
our maritime mobile station, take our sea sickness pills  and  patches,  and
be prepared to sail on January 15th.
We'll be passing through some rare grids on the way  to  Amsterdam  Island
and we are anxious to hand out QSO's from them.  Be sure to look for  us  on
the bands and track us on our  website  in  near  real  time.    Landing  on
Amsterdam can be "exciting."  Wish us good luck with this.  We'll have  some
heavy work to do upon landing and expect our set up time to take at least  a
full day.  We'll let you know when we get there.
This will be our last  press  release.    It  has  been  a  long  time  of
preparation and a great deal of work, but that is behind us now.   The  next
time you hear from us, it will be a  signal  from  the  Braveheart  or  from
Amsterdam Island.
As  you  can  see  from  our    financial    status    on    our  home  page
(
www.amsterdamdx.org), we still need help.  If you haven't  helped  us  yet,
please consider doing so.  If you've supported us, thank you -  you've  kept
us afloat to date.

+ SILENT KEYS + Max de Henseler, HB9RS, the founder and  president  emeritus
of 4U1UN at United Nations headquarters in New York, died on 30 December  at
80 years of age. In 1976 he reactivated the UN Radio  Club  station  (K2UN),
and introduced the new call sign 4U1UN on 4 February  1978.  During  his  UN
career he operated under various call signs, including 3D2RS, 5W1BK,  9Y4RS,
DJ0AB, EL2DX, ET3RS, FO0RSM, HP1HN and XW8HB.
As for the current status of 4U1UN, The Daily DX  repots  that  the  station
"was dismantled in early 2010 due to the massive renovation project  on  the
Secretariat Building. All of the antennas were removed  from  the  roof  and
all of the equipment packed up and are being stored in the UN. The  club  is
seriously looking at several options in order to get 4U1UN back on  the  air
as quickly as  possible.  Some  of  the  options  being  considered  include
remoting the station, putting the station on the ground  floor  and  running
some 400-500 feet of coax to the top of the building or moving  the  station
to another sovereign UN building".
Other recently reported Silent Keys include  Hans  Rexin  (DJ6QP),  Miloslav
Bartos (OM3FZ) and Jerry Pittenger  (K8RA),  well-known  manufacturer  of  a
line of iambic and single-lever CW keys.

   [02/01/2014] EPC WW DX Contest

The European PSK Club has the honour to invite radio amateurs from all over the world to participate in the EPC WW DX Contest 2014. The objective of the EPC WW DX Contest is to establish as many contacts as possible between radio amateurs around the world by using only the BPSK63 mode (all HF bands except WARC bands). Everybody can work everybody for QSO and multiplier credit. The next EPC WW DX Contest will be held from 12:00 UTC on 01.02.2014 to 12:00 UTC until 02.02.2014. This is an excellent opportunity to increase your BPKS63 count as well as accumulating contacts for other EPC awards for countries, prefixes, suffixes, etc.

---------

The annual EPC WW DX Contest for 2013 is over and we look forward to the 2014 contest so you need to get prepared to work some really great DX on the BPSK63 mode on all bands (except the WARC bands of course). Information about the very first EPC WW DX Contest is posted below this message.

Remember the dates & time: 12:00 UTC on 01.02.2014 to 12:00 UTC on 02.02.2014. The only permissible mode is BPSK63 only so be sure you are in the right mode before you begin and maximum power is 100 watts.

Recommended frequencies are: 160 meters (1.838 – 1.843 MHz), 80 meters (3.580 – 3.590 MHz), 40 meters (7.040 – 7.050 MHz), 20 meters (14.070 – 14.080 MHz), 15 meters (21.070 – 21.080 MHz), and 10 meters (28.070 – 28.080 MHz). No WARC band contacts!

Take note of the new band for 2014 (160 meters) and several changes to the categories list including a mode for YLs.

As it was with last year's contest, be sure to pay close attention to your Cabrillo log so that it matches exactly the format required.

All the very best and see you all in the EPC WW DX Contest 2014!
